NOURISHING BEAUTY

What is linneo?

  • Bio-pigments produced by fungi, called “Mychroma”

  • Color that nourishes your skin and body

  • Reduces damage in skin cells

“Eyeshadows with antioxidants, hydration, and purifying UV protection properties”

Linneo is a bio-nutricosmetic obtained from fungi biopigments, composed of biocomponents which generate a boost of nutrients to your skin. Color pigments were extracted from microorganisms creating  a non invasive, non chemical cosmetic.

Our "Mychroma" bio-pigments perform as nourishing bio-agents, providing antioxidant properties, protection against UV rays and moisturizing the skin. Its organic pigments do not use fertilizers nor insecticides, commonly used in organic-based cosmetics. At Linneo we seek to revolutionize the world of beauty enhancing color and nourishing makeup.

“Linneo, a green and sustainable cosmetic.”

sOCIAL ISSUE

“Cosmetics production leaves a significant carbon footprint damaging not only the ozone layer, but also causing detrimental impact to the environment and human health.”

Currently, the makeup industry works with large manufacturers and third party fabrication.  Cosmetics manufacturers commonly use toxic ingredients as heavy metals, parabens, and phthalates causing serious impacts on people's health and the planet in the long term.

Raw material extraction and processing have created environmental and human impacts due to the complexity of its ingredients for makeup formulation. Talc, a base mineral ingredient extracted from soil is commonly used in foundations, eyeshadows, and powdery makeup. Human and environmental impacts are two-fold, for those who extract it and those who apply it. The mineral naturally grows near asbestos causing toxicity when directly in contact with the body or through inhalation. Cosmetics production leaves a significant carbon footprint damaging not only the ozone layer, but also causing detrimental impact to the environment and human health. Post-consumer behaviour causes a wide impact since it's based on single use containers and packaging, usually not biodegradable.

approach

“A nourishing cosmetic is born from nature’s perfect ingredients”

LINNEO is a biodesigned cosmetic solution, friendly to the skin and does not cause an environmental impact. We use only bioagents, because a nourishing cosmetic is born from nature’s perfect ingredients. Therefore, our pigments are extracted directly from fungi obtaining many beneficial properties. From Bogotá’s Andes mountain forests, six filamentous fungal species were used. In turn, this discovery does not affect our future biodiversity, as no new species are introduced to the unique ecosystem. To obtain LINNEO’s eyeshadows the pigment is extracted, dried and ground for mixing it with a natural binder.

our biopigments

“Our product also includes antimicrobial properties”.

Our biopigments called "Mychromas" function as bioagents. According to the International Journal of Horticulture, Agriculture and Food science, biopigments produced by fungi have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and UV protection properties. Furthermore, our product also includes antimicrobial properties.

our binder

“Our binder not only provides our shadows with a better performance, but also nourishes and protects the skin”.

Our binder is made from the Ganoderma lucidum fungus. The binder works as a substrate meaning that it is a support for the pigment to achieve better results during the manufacturing process and when applied to the skin. The predominant substances are polysaccharides and chitin, which have characteristics very similar to the binders and substrates currently used in the cosmetic industry. However, our binder not only provides our shadows with a better performance, but also nourishes and protects the skin. According to the International Mycotherapy Institute, these nutritional properties given by the Ganoderma fungus are due to the large amount of active substances in this fungus, with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, which protect the human body cells from severe damage.

Regulations and safety for human health

“We are in the process of characterizing each bio-pigment”

Both the pigment and the binder don’t require an FDA certificate, as they are colorants and additives from a natural source, which in this case are fungi. Furthermore, the pigments produced by the fungal species that we use are carotenoids, riboflavin, anthocyanins and lycopenes. These substances are exempt from certification, in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations for cosmetics. The above mentioned substances are also accepted by the FDA to be used on the skin near the eyes. However, UV exposure, skin irritation, permeability and cytotoxicity tests will be performed to ensure the product safety. We are in the process of characterizing each bio-pigment, to determine aspects such as morphology, density and other physical and chemical characteristics of biopigments and binder. This, in order to carry out the approval process with the FDA and other regulatory entities of the country where the product is marketed.
